You probably won’t ever see the urethane belts or the stainless steel hooks that this machine crimps on to the end of them, but chances are, if you’re a customer of the US Postal Service, you’ll benefit from the efficient operation of Action Feed Systems latest machine shipment.
When a urethane belt manufacturer contacted Action Feed Systems, they wanted a way to reduce the labor intensive method of crimping stainless steel hooks on their very popular, easy to install, replacement urethane conveyor drive belts. Do to the huge quantity of mail sorting and conveying equipment, the USPS had become a major consumer for this supplier, and production just wasn’t efficient enough.
To increase efficiency, Action Feed Systems took on the difficult task of feeding a small (0.060” dia.), stainless steel wire form hook. No small task, and that was just the feeding portion of the project. The automated system was also required to crimp each hook consistently, and completely without shearing the urethane belt.

Action Feed Systems provided a beautifully crafted stainless steel vibratory feeder bowl, vibratory inline, shuttle escapement, crimping and release mechanism to fulfill customer requirements. A programmable plc was used to fine tune all movements, positioning sensors and timing for the stand-alone automation system.
The Stainless Steel Hook Crimp Machine ended up meeting the requirements of the manufacture and speeding up assembly, efficiency, and ultimately the big test, the manufacturer’s bottom line. So the next time you pick up your mail, even if most of it goes into the ‘circular file’, Action Feed Systems will have had some small impact on your day!
